  • What is Qsymia?

Qsymia is a combination of two different medications. It includes phentermine, a weight loss medicine that suppresses appetite, and topiramate, an anti-convulstant seizure medication. The way that these two medications interacti is not entirely clear, but Qsymia could potentially be a powerful weight loss tool.

Qsymia is available for purchase online, but you should speak with your doctor before beginning use. It is approved to be used by people with a BMI of 30 or higher, or in people with a BMI of 27 or higher who suffer from at least one weight-related medical condition such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. One study showed that obese people who used Qsymia for a year saw an average weight loss of 25 pounds. Qsymia will work best when combined with a calorie-restricted diet and regular exercise.

Always speak to your doctor before beginning use of Qsymia. It may interact poorly with certain medications or medical conditions, and is especially dangerous in pregnant women. Side effects of Qsymia may include mood swings, difficulty sleeping, low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, or a need to adjust medications for blood pressure.

It is possible to overdose on Qsymia, and an overdose may require immediate medical attention. Signs of overdose include hallucinations, panic, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, cramps (especially stomach cramps), and seizure.
